The Lean Clock

Time,
at rest.

A tall pendulum clock that leans against the wall. Nothing to hang. Made by hand, one at a time.

Reed is a small workshop making objects for the home — slowly, by hand, in the same place we live. The first is a clock that doesn’t ask for a nail.

The Lean Clock

One continuous arch, a face at the top, a pendulum swinging in the opening. Set it on the floor, tip it back against the wall, and a hidden magnet locks it in place.

01

Leans, doesn’t hang

A magnet in the back locks to a small plate held on with a removable adhesive strip. No nails, no holes, nothing to patch when you move.

02

A pendulum you can watch

The opening frames the swing, with a soft, steady tick to go with it — the part of a clock that was always the best part.

03

Made one at a time

Cut, shaped and finished by hand in our shop. Each clock is built after you order it.

At home

Tall enough to notice,
quiet enough to live with.

Beside a fireplace, at the end of a hall, in the corner that never had a use. The Lean Clock is sized to stand with furniture, not hang above it.

Studio

Made in Reed.

Reed is named for the place it’s made: the Reed neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, where home and workshop share one roof. I’m Patrick Triato, an industrial designer. I design things for a living, and I build these by hand because some objects deserve more than a production line.

Every Reed piece starts as a sketch and ends on a workbench a few steps from the kitchen. Clocks are first. More objects for the home will follow.

Questions

Does it need to be attached to the wall?

Not with nails or screws. It leans at a slight angle on its two legs, and a magnet in the back of the face locks it to a small metal plate on the wall. The plate goes up with a removable adhesive strip, so there are no holes, and both come in the box.

Does it tick?

Softly. It has a quiet, calming tick that keeps time with the swing of the pendulum — present if you listen for it, easy to forget if you don’t. It runs on one AA battery.

How long until it ships?

Each clock is built to order. Expect from order to shipping; you’ll get an email when yours leaves the shop.

Can I get a custom color?

There are nine colors in the builder, each with black or matched hands. Have something else in mind? Write to us and we’ll tell you if we can mix it.

Where do you ship?

Shipping is a flat anywhere in the continental US, packed in a custom box. For Alaska, Hawaii or Canada, write to us for a quote. In Portland? Ask about picking yours up from the shop.

Can I return it?

Each clock is built and painted for you after you order, so we can’t accept returns or exchanges. You can cancel for a full refund within 48 hours of ordering, before we start building.

What if it arrives damaged?

That’s on us. Email photos within 7 days of delivery and we’ll repair or replace it at no cost. The clock movement is covered for one year.
